Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Oct 18, 2024 | 0 Comments

Nurses are under a great deal of pressure, whether they're working in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, or any other health facility. A small mistake can lead to serious allegations and discipline from the state board of nursing—causing a nurse to lose their license. A nurse in Washington state was recently charged with violations related to prescription drugs, and now his license is suspended.

If you're facing issues concerning your nursing license or the board is threatening to take it away, you shouldn't try to handle it alone. Instead, call the Lento Law Firm's Professional License Defense Team. We help you defend your license. Call 888-535-3686 or send us your information via our online form.

ARNP License Suspended Over Prescription Concerns

An Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in Washington State had his license suspended in June 2024 over charges related to improper patient drug prescriptions. Percy Lynchard III was working with direct health care practice Heritage Family Medicine in Olympia, Washington, when he was charged with several counts of inadequate patient care. The Washington State Board of Nursing initially filed a statement of charges in August 2023, then filed an amended statement 10 months later.

The allegations against Lynchard are related to his treatment of 28 patients, all concerning prescription drugs. Some of the charges are failing to document a prescription monitoring program before prescribing controlled substances, frequently co-prescribing opioids with drugs that could cause potentially harmful interactions without documenting those interactions, and failing to offer alternatives to opioids for patients with chronic pain, amongst other things.

The Board of Nursing considered Lynchard's alleged infractions as posing “an immediate danger to the public health and safety” and suspended his nursing license, effective immediately. Lynchard will have to contest the suspension and respond to the charges if he wants to keep his license.

What to Do If Your Nursing License Is in Jeopardy

Getting accused of violations by your state board of nursing can be overwhelming and frightening. The sanctions for such actions can be severe; not only can your license be suspended, but it could also be revoked entirely. If you're in this situation, you shouldn't try to take on the board by yourself. You've already got too much to worry about, keeping your nursing career on track.
