Accredited Florida Nursing School Issues
The FBI's Operation Nightingale filed criminal charges against more than two dozen officials connected with several Florida nursing schools, alleging their fraudulent sale of fake school credentials.
Those schools had the required state approval and national recognition to qualify graduates to sit for the NCLEX licensure exam. Those schools also graduated many nurses who earned their credentials, completing all coursework and clinical hours.
Yet turning FBI informant, several of the criminal defendants gave the FBI lists of thousands of nursing school graduates who allegedly did not earn their credentials. Those nurses have been fighting state nursing board action all over the country to preserve their licenses and gainful nursing practice.
Virginia Board of Nursing Threatens Nurses
The Virginia Board of Nursing has been threatening nurses who hold credentials from the involved Florida nursing schools that the nurses must prove that they earned their education from another school, ignoring those nurses' Florida nursing school credentials even though the schools were accredited.
The notices first state, “The Virginia Board of Nursing (BON) is aware that the educational facility that you used to obtain your nursing education … provided fraudulent transcripts to students.” The notices then require the accused nurse to provide “documentation (transcripts, etc.) showing you completed all required training at a facility other than [the involved school] including all required hours of clinical experience in a health care setting.”
The Unfairness of the Board's Demands
The Virginia Board of Nursing is thus ignoring each accused nurse's credentials even though earned from an accredited nursing school, with clinical hours completed at a recognized hospital or other healthcare facility, enabling the nursing student to pass the NCLEX national licensure exam.
The Board of Nursing purports to give the accused nurses no opportunity whatsoever to prove that they earned their credentials legitimately at the involved school, even though many nurses did so.
