Operation Nightingale and Maryland Nurses: Defending Your License

May 14, 2025

You worked hard to become a nurse. You juggled classes, shifts, family, and clinicals. Then one day, the headlines explode with words like “fraud,” “fake diplomas,” and “Operation Nightingale.” Suddenly, your license—your future—is under suspicion, just because of where you went to school. This is the reality for hundreds of Maryland nurses. If you’re one of them, you’re not alone—and you do have rights.

What Is Operation Nightingale?

It started in Florida. Federal agents claimed that several now-shuttered nursing schools—Siena College, Sacred Heart International, and Palm Beach School of Nursing—were selling diplomas and transcripts to people who never actually completed the required coursework. The numbers were big: over 7,000 fake diplomas, according to federal prosecutors

From there, the fallout spread like wildfire. States across the country began combing through nursing licenses. Maryland was no exception.

The Maryland Fallout: Guilt by Association?

A state audit found that 259 Maryland nurses with links to the schools named in Operation Nightingale still held active Maryland licenses as of February 2024.

But let’s be clear: being connected to one of these schools does not mean you did anything wrong. You may have taken your classes. You may have passed your boards. You may have worked honorably, serving patients every single day.

Yet, your name is on a list. Your license may be under review. And the worst part? You may not even know it yet. But here’s a helpful link: the Maryland Board of Nursing’s list of names tied to the investigation.

Most Nurses Cleared—But the Clock Is Ticking

Of the 259 flagged cases, the majority have already been cleared. The Maryland Board of Nursing determined that many nurses were licensed fairly and legitimately. But for dozens of others, investigations are still active. And if your case hasn’t been reviewed yet, you’re in limbo—your reputation, career, and livelihood hanging in the balance.

Waiting won’t help. If your name is connected to this investigation, now is the time to act.

They Question Your Career: We Defend It.

Let’s be honest. The words “fraud” and “investigation” can ruin a nurse’s life, whether you’re guilty or not. But here’s the truth: if you were lied to by a school, you shouldn’t have to pay the price for their wrongdoing.

We defend Maryland nurses facing investigations, license suspensions, and disciplinary hearings. We understand the nuances of Operation Nightingale, and we know how to fight back when the system paints hardworking professionals with the same broad brush.
