North Carolina Physician Faces Multiple Sex Offense Charges, Surrenders License

July 1, 2025

A North Carolina physician practicing in pathology is facing severe legal and professional challenges following multiple criminal charges pertaining to sexual offenses. According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Jordan was first arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor–then a few days later, authorities filed seven additional felony counts of secret peeping, alleging that Jordan had placed a hidden camera in the bathroom of a family member’s home.

At the time of these allegations, Jordan worked as a medical resident at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, part of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Upon learning of the charges, the medical school placed Jordan on administrative leave. Notably, Jordan preemptively surrendered his medical license in the wake of the charges.

Misconduct’s Impact on Professional Licensure

This story underscores the fact that any allegations of sexual misconduct, even when not connected to patient care or workplace activities, can have severe consequences for a professional license. While Jordan voluntarily surrendered his medical license, it is almost certain he would have faced disciplinary action from the North Carolina Medical Board. State licensing boards take allegations of criminal behavior, particularly those involving sexual misconduct, extremely seriously.

Allegations of criminal sexual behavior can severely undermine a professional’s ability to maintain their license, as they raise questions about moral character, judgment, and trustworthiness. A conviction is not always necessary for disciplinary action; the mere involvement in or credible allegations of serious misconduct may be enough to initiate an investigation.

Off-Duty Allegations Can Still Lead to License Action

An important point to note: alleged misconduct does not necessarily have to take place in the workplace for it to impact your license. The charges against Jordan stem from incidents that allegedly occurred in a private residence, with no apparent connection to his professional responsibilities. Yet, these allegations prompted immediate actions from the licensing board and his employer.

Many professionals are surprised to learn that boards claim authority over conduct that happens outside of work. Licensing authorities often justify this stance by citing their responsibility to maintain public trust in the profession. This principle is especially relevant in cases involving criminal charges, as they may suggest a lack of fitness to practice.
