Florida ICU Nurse Accused of Stealing Fentanyl
Across the United States, licensing boards govern the issuance of medical-related professional licenses and ensure licensees comply with rules of conduct. These ethical standards and practice requirements help ensure that patients are treated competently, professionally, and without exploitation. While licensed medical professionals provide critical, life-saving medical care to patients, they remain vulnerable to the ravages of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. No one wants a doctor, nurse, dentist, or physician assistant who is under the influence of drugs or suffering from addiction to make critical life-and-death decisions about patient care or treatment.
For licensed medical professionals, drug use and addiction can lead to devastating consequences. Proximity to medication, impaired decision-making, and desperation can lead to troubling and dangerous outcomes.
Any allegation of professional misconduct, including one involving medical professionals and the use of drugs or alcohol, may jeopardize the accused’s life and livelihood. Any licensee accused of professional misconduct must take immediate action to defend themselves and their license.

Florida ICU Nurse Accused of Stealing Fentanyl and Other Drugs
It has been reported that Leah Ann Parra, a nurse at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Florida, has been charged with grand theft of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The allegations against Parra arose from an incident in which a witness reported that the nurse removed Fentanyl from a patient’s medication vial.
It is alleged that Parra initially denied any wrongdoing but later consented to a search of her bag, where syringes, vials of Lorazepam and Benadryl, and the stolen Fentanyl were found.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the incident was reported to law enforcement and the state Board of Nursing.
