Washington Suspends DC Nursing Licenses

State licensing officials nationwide have been investigating the educational credentials of nurses involved in the FBI's Operation Nightingale nursing school fraud scandal. Washington, DC licensing officials, though, are taking the next step to summarily suspend the licenses of nurses alleged by a defendant school official to have received fraudulent credentials. DC nurses are receiving summary suspension orders from DC's Health Regulation and Licensing Administration.

DC Acknowledges Legitimate Nursing Credentials

Washington, D.C.'s Health Regulation and Licensing Administration published a public notice disclosing its investigation into nursing credentials from the involved and now-closed Florida nursing schools. But that public notice expressly acknowledges that the involved schools operated legitimately at least some of the time. Indeed, Washington's public notice acknowledges that the involved Florida nursing schools provided at least some graduates with authentic credentials. Just because you hold credentials from one of those nursing schools doesn't mean that your credentials are fraudulent.

Washington Nurses Need to Invoke Emergency Appeals

You must act immediately, though, if you are to save your Washington, D.C., nursing license. The DC Licensing Administration's private notices immediately suspend the involved nurses' license. Those nurses immediately lose the right and privilege to practice nursing in DC. The emergency notices give nurses only seventy-two hours to appeal the license suspension. If you don't act within that brief time, you may lose your Washington nursing license without any hearing.

Washington, D.C. Nurses Prepare for Emergency Hearings

Nurses who timely invoke an appeal of their license suspension have almost no time to prepare for the appeal hearing. The notices of summary license suspension state that the Licensing Administration will hold the appeal hearing within seventy-two hours. Thus, the notices permit an involved nurse only seventy-two hours to prepare for the hearing, almost no time to gather the evidence a nurse would need to prove the legitimacy of school credentials.

Washington, DC, Nurses, Need Hearing Representation

According to the DC Licensing Administration's notices to the involved nurses, the DC attorney general will represent the DC Board of Nursing at the appeal hearings. If you are to present your evidence and challenge the Board's allegations effectively, then you will need skilled and experienced professional license defense counsel to help you prepare for and conduct your DC nursing license hearing.
