North Carolina Daycare Shut Down Over Safety Concerns

The Midwood Learning Academy, a daycare facility located in Charlotte, was recently shut down by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Several safety concerns came to light after viral videos were posted showing children being transported in vehicles without car seats. The controversy started when one of the children's parents found out about her 3-year-old daughter being left alone at a park without any adult supervision while in the facility's care. Shortly after, surveillance footage from the daycare center showed staff members loading children into vehicles without securing them in car seats, with one child even lying horizontally across others' laps. The footage also shows the car driving off with the door still ajar.

North Carolina HHS acted swiftly following this video, launching an investigation and concluding that emergency action was needed to protect the children's safety. The daycare facility's license has been suspended, and further investigation is pending. Many parents have also unenrolled their children from Midwood Learning Academy.

What to Do If Your Daycare License Is Under Investigation

If you operate a daycare facility and the license is under your name, you're the one ultimately responsible for any safety allegations or failed inspections. You have an obligation to employ staff members who are cleared to work with children and who prioritize children's safety. Unfortunately, when a staff member makes a mistake, it's your license that gets investigated, suspended, or even revoked.

The best thing you can do when your childcare license is called into question is contact the Professional License Defense Team at the Lento Law Firm. Even if you're unsure how serious the allegations are, you should reach out to our team and let us know about your situation. We can offer advice and support throughout the entire process, letting you know what to expect from the investigation and how best to handle the licensing board's decision.
