Dentist Faces Consequences of Inappropriately Prescribing Oxycodone
A Maryland dentist and owner of Perry Hall Family Dental has been convicted of controlled substance prescribing and distribution. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) found that from April 2022 to May 2025, the dentist, Andrew T. Fried, was prescribing oxycodone without a legitimate medical purpose to a dental assistant who had formerly worked at his practice. Once the individual collected the prescription, Fried would purchase the pills.
Fried’s freedom isn’t the only thing on the line; he runs the risk of losing his license. Defending his license should be a top priority to protect his future. If you’ve been accused of similar behavior or any other form of professional misconduct, the LLF National Law Firm can represent you. One of our Professional License Defense Team dentistry license defense attorneys will walk you through the disciplinary action process. Fried’s Violation of Maryland State Dentist Regulations
Fried has pleaded guilty to distributing narcotics and prescribing a controlled dangerous substance outside the regular course of his duties as a dentist. While the actions Fried pleaded guilty to are illegal, they also violate Maryland regulations governing dentists throughout the state. These regulations prohibit misconduct, including the distribution of controlled substances and practicing outside their scope. Additionally, under Maryland rules and regulations, Fried will be required to notify the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners of his conviction.
What Happens Next to Fried’s Dental License?
While Fried was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by three years of parole, that doesn’t mean his career will be permanently over. In fact, it shouldn’t be with the guidance of a qualified professional license defense attorney. At the LLF National Law Firm, we do everything in our power to mitigate the consequences of dental board disciplinary action for our clients.
Before the time for renewal arrives, Fried can certainly expect to be hearing from the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners. Convictions and violations of Maryland state dental regulations will undoubtedly result in a dental board investigation and potentially an adverse disciplinary action against his license. Just because his license will expire during his sentence doesn’t mean he shouldn’t fight for the most minimal, if any, disciplinary action to be taken against his dental license. The more minimal the disciplinary action, the better chances he will have at obtaining a dental license later on.
